About Us

Although we are one of Auckland’s largest North Shore Primary Schools, you would be forgiven for not knowing where Willow Park School is located. Tucked away in Hillcrest, near Northcote, Willow Park School has a strong tradition in quality teaching. A friendly atmosphere is evident in the school and students play and interact with each other in a positive manner. School facilities include a swimming pool, sizable school hall, well resourced library, 3 playgrounds and computer room.

The school delivers the New Zealand Curriculum through an inquiry based curriculum framework, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). See the curriculum section of this website, or www.ibo.org for more information.

Willow Park School employs a Chinese teacher to teach Mandarin as a second language to Year 3, 4 & 5 students. Students receive two half hour lessons every week. Year 6 students will be included in this programme next year. In addition, the school has specialist teachers for Music, Dance & Drama, Maori, and Physical Education. Children have weekly singing with the Music teacher.

A lunch time activities programme offers a range of activities including choir, band, sport, enviro group and kapa haka. Extension sessions are scheduled throughout the year for achieving students in different areas including mathematics, English and technology. The school has a rigorous learning support programme involving teacher aides working in classes. An English as a Second Language (ESOL) programme operates throughout the day to support new learners to the English language.

The effective use of technology by students is an increasingly important element of classroom programmes. All classes in the senior area of our school (Years 4, 5 & 6) have a set each of 8 laptop computers that are used by students during class time. The junior part of the school has regular access to our computer suite.

This website includes a learning management section called the Ultranet. The Ultranet provides a secure interactive environment where parents can log in and be informed and involved in their child's learning. The website also contains the school charter that was revised in 2008 through a process of community consultation. The charter outlines the school's values, identity, culture and learning.

Willow Park School operates an enrolment scheme favouring students living within the school zone. Enquiries from international and out of zone students are welcome, but subject to student space availability at each year level.
